Serbia midfielder Dejan Stankovic was unhappy with the negative nature of his side's performance in their 1-0 defeat to Ghana in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon.
A late penalty from Asamoah Gyan handed the Black Stars a vital Group win and put them in an excellent position to progress from Group D.
However, after the match Stankovic told journalists that had his side taken their opportunities, the outcome could have been different.
He said, "This was a very negative start for us. We had our chances but we
were unable to make good use of them.
"Now we have to show the will to overcome our difficulties."
Stankovic also commented on his role in coach Radomir Antic's system, where the central midfielder is asked to play more defensively.
He commented, "In this system that we are using I am forced to defend as we have too much good talent going forward.
"So I am forced to be more defensive in this team."
Serbia's next match is against Germany on Friday, June 18.
