Yaya Toure believes that Manchester City have been helped by a higher power to regain a foothold in the Premier League title race.
Two weeks ago City were eight points behind leaders Manchester United but, after a dramatic turnaround, they are just three behind ahead of Monday’s derby - and, unlike his manager, Roberto Mancini, the 28-year-old has backed his side to triumph over their rivals and win the league.
“The club has wanted the Premier League for a long time,” he told The Daily Mirror. “And in my opinion we have somebody who is trying to help us because to see United lead 4-2 [over Everton] and end up 4-4 is incredible.
“We are very happy with the results and Sunday was a fantastic day for City. We have a second chance and I hope we take it because it is very important to us.
“We have the team to win all the games. We have the quality and the mentality to win all these games.”
Monday’s derby at the Etihad Stadium has been billed as a Premier League decider, but Toure realises that it will be a very tough game against the holders.
He continued: “It will very big, big for the fans and people who love football because of the expectation and the quality that will be on the pitch.
“It will be unbelievable and I am very excited about it.
“United are a tough team, big club, [with] big experience, fantastic players - world-class players - and it will be an amazing game.”
